Long hair is always on-trend and there are so many reasons why.
Traditionally, long hair was seen as being more feminine and attractive than short hair, and whilst some people still may feel that way, it is no longer just about sporting a classic hairstyle.
When it comes to hairstyles for long hair, it's all about the haircut, the styling techniques and the colour, making it totally worthy of the gram.
Long locks can be much more versatile when it comes to fashion on the red carpet also. Think mermaid waves or the perfect bubble ponytail which often take centre stage when it comes to celebrity styling.
The styles may change but long hair will always be in fashion
Long hair has been a symbol of femininity for centuries, and many believe it can make women look younger. But is this true?
The answer is no. The myth that long hair makes a woman appear younger may come from the fact that we usually associate short hairstyles with maturing and ageing, not youthfulness and edge.
In reality, the length of your locks does nothing to change how old you look; what's more important are things like skin texture or facial features when it comes to looking young or old.
Fortunately, for those that love their long tresses, there are plenty of tricks we can use to keep ourselves looking fresh-faced without chopping off all our hair!
Long hair is timeless
There is no one-size-fits-all kind of long haircut. When you're looking for hair ideas to take to your stylist, you will need to have a think about the following:
First of all, the longer your hair gets, the more high maintenance it may become. So if you are living out your best rapunzel life, you may need to decide where your final cut-off point will be. If you can give your stylist a bit of room to move, they will be able to work with you to achieve a gorgeous length that suits your face shape and style.
If you have long straight hair and are going for more of a classic vibe, you may want to consider no layers. A perfect example is that long, sleek one-length look that you often see on the runway. It's bold, beautiful and all the rage in the fashion world.
Many people find that long layered hairstyles make it easier to deal with their hair types. For example;
Now if you want to take your layered haircut to the next level, you should definitely consider adding some bangs.
Before you whip out the family album to remind yourself how bad your fringes were as a child, hear us out.
With the right bangs, think Bridgette Bardot inspired, you can frame the face, add volume and achieve ultimate hair goal status, in an instant.
In our experience, everyone can suit long hair but not everyone has the right haircut to pull it off.
Your trusted stylist has the experience and skillset to take your face shape into consideration when planning your long haircut.
A haircut is like botox for the face. For round faces, the right shape can help slim and lengthen the face, think of it like a painless facelift. For those with oval faces, the right long haircut can help to accentuate features and prevent elongating the face shape.
It's all about balance. And we totally have that covered. Find out more about our haircuts at é Salon.

Now we could bang on about styling techniques forever. And we mean forever.
But rather than writing a novel on all of the different ways you can style long hair, we thought we would give you a few of our favourites.
So here goes:
One of our favourite techniques for long straight hair is beachy waves. Some texturizing serum before blow drying will help add texture and create a strong foundation for your curls. Using a curling wand, you can take small to medium sections of hair and wind it around the wand creating a soft wave. Finish with some sea salt spray for a tousled, summery vibe or smooth out with a nourishing oil for a more elegant style (perfect for date night).
We all love a good ponytail and for longer hair, it's the perfect upstyle to take you from day to night.
When it comes to the perfect ponytail look you have a few different options:
You can also accessorise with clips, bobby pins, bows or ponytail cuffs. Trust us, when it comes to long hairstyles, the pony is a trusted favourite.
If you have a wedding or formal event coming up, styling long hair into an updo can help you finish off your black tie look. An upstyle is also great for warmer and windy days, as it can help keep you cool and also help keep the hair off your face.
If you're after more of an effortless look for afternoon drinks by the ocean or cocktails with the girls, a style that is half up may be just the solution.
For a summery vibe, you can consider a top knot. The low maintenance style can be achieved by pulling the hair (half up) into a high ponytail and securing it with an elastic band at the tip of your head. For extra volume, you can try gently teasing out some strands before knotting them up. Add some mermaid waves to dial the relaxed style up a notch.
The best part about the half updo is that you get to maintain length (which is what we love about our long hair) but remove weight on top, creating volume and height. It's a win win.
There are so many different types of braids you can try. From loose plaits to sweeping waterfall braids, you can take inspiration from some of your favourite style icons. The best thing about braids, is you can style them up or down for any occasion.
Protecting your long hair is the key to shiny healthy hair. It also prevents having to chop it off!
It is important when it comes to long locks and healthy hair that you really take the time to care for your hair. Not only will it help your long hair to hold a curl, but it will also help prevent split ends.
When it is time to blow dry, use a high quality boar bristle brush such as the YS Park Jumbo Carbon Tiger Hairbrush. This round brush is one of our favourites and perfect for straight or wavy hair styles, giving tension where needed without ripping out the hair.
The right shampoo and conditioner can play a vital role in keeping your hair in mint condition. Thin locks can fall heavy when you use something that is too dense, likewise, curls can become frizzy when you use something that is too light.
It is essential that you use styling products to protect your hair as well. Whether it's a heat protectant, volumizing spray or leave-in conditioner, you will need to add products before picking up the curling iron. Trust us, you will thank us later.
The formula for healthy long shiny hair is: the right products + the right style
Long hair isn't just for the young, but also the young at heart. It can be a major asset for anyone, especially over the age of 50.
Longer locks can bring out your natural beauty and make you feel sexy regardless of the number of candles on your cake each year. You can try different types of styles to change it up or keep it natural with some waves and curls.
Longer locks are also great for those who are experiencing any thinning that may be occurring as we age - creating fullness in areas that we need it most. Plus, if you're looking for more volume, this type of hairstyle is perfect as it adds length at the crown meaning more body all round. So don't worry about what society says, long hair looks good on everyone!
If you have long hair and are planning on going grey, you may want to consider attempting to grow out or correct any old colour before you start. Subtle highlights can help to blend grey hair during the process, whilst a full head of foils can quickly transform your colour in an instant.
There is no expiry date for long hair
There are a few different ways to style long hair for men, but we've picked out some of our favourites.
The first style is the messy quiff. This look is great for guys with straight hair as it gives a cool and casual vibe. The key to achieving this style is to use a sea salt spray on damp hair before blow drying. Use your fingers to scrunch the hair whilst drying and then finish with a light hold hairspray.
For a more polished look, try the slicked back style. This look is perfect for guys with thicker hair as it helps to keep everything in place. Start by using a styling cream on wet hair and then blow dry using a round brush. Finish with a styling gel or polish to keep it sleek.
Another favourite style is just embracing the natural texture. Sea salt spray scrunched into the ends and left to dry naturally, can create a beachy look with minimal effort. If you're wanting to change it up a little or get it off your face, you could opt for a half up style such as the classic 'man bun'.
